KBC reveals date Limerick hub to close as unit goes on the market

KBC Bank’s hub in Limerick city will close on March 10 “as part of its orderly and phased exit from the Irish market”.
The ground floor unit at 103/104 O'Connell Street is available to let from April 1 with the rent being advertised at €42,000 per year. A KBC spokesperson told the Leader it is expected that the transfer of customer products to Bank of Ireland will happen in early 2023.
“Following these closures any remaining KBC customers will be primarily supported through the KBC’s contact centre. The current account closure process remains a key priority for KBC Bank Ireland as it conducts a phased and orderly withdrawal from the Irish market.
The bank continues to support customers at every turn, through appropriate communication and engagement, ensuring they have all the information they need, understand the actions they need to take, and the timelines associated with those actions,” said a KBC spokesperson.
At the beginning of this process in May 2022, KBC Bank Ireland estimated that 52,000 of the 130,000 total number of KBC current account holders would need to open a new account or move to a new provider. Today, that figure is down 36% to 33,600.
“More than 95% of all KBC current account customers have now received account closure notices and notices with remaining notices issuing in January. It is important that customers commence taking action to move their accounts as they receive their six months’ notice as it can take time to choose a new provider and move payments to that new provider.
“KBC has also advised customers that if they are having difficulty moving their current account, that KBC may be able to extend their notice. If customers are having difficulties or require additional support to move their accounts they should contact KBC on 1800 939244.
KBC also has a dedicated care team to support vulnerable customers,” said the KBC spokesperson.
