Limerick choir hosts open night for new members

The Curraghgower Singers are welcoming all to join their choir
THE CURRAGHGOWER Singers are hosting an open night for all interested in joining the choir.
The group meets every Monday night in Lisnagry NS from 7.10pm to 9.30pm, with a break for a social chat and a cup of tea or coffee. The choir is directed by Mr. Timothy Schinnick.
The choir is mixed and secular, with its members coming from all walks of life.!
Every year, the group performs at several choral events, raising funds for many local charities including Limerick Rape Crisis Centre, Enable Ireland, the Adare Branch of the Irish Red Cross and Local Care of the Aged.
The choir performed in St Mary’s Church, Limerick, and Mary Magdalene Church, Monaleen, to great acclaim in early July of this year.
They perform every July at St Mary’s Cathedral at the invitation of the Honorary Consul of France for the Mid-West Region, Monsieur Loïc Guyon, at the Flight of the Wild Geese Festival. This year’s event was a “wonderful success which was enjoyed very much by all in attendance”.
The National Day of Commemoration Ceremony in Limerick City Hall is another highlight of the group’s choral year. This is a very moving and poignant celebration of remembrance with many ex-servicemen in attendance.
While the group loves performing, especially for charity, they also enjoy “many a great social evening full of fun, laughter and song”.
From November 15-17, the choir is travelling to The Rose Hotel in Tralee for a choral training weekend, which will also involve all of the above!
In December, the singers have been invited to take part in Dickensian Festival of Carols, Lessons and Poetry in the Holy Trinity Abbey Church in Adare.
The group dresses up in Dickensian costume for this event, and a donation is made to the Adare Branch of the Irish Red Cross afterwards.
Anne Berkery of the Curraghgower Singers said: “We have forged many lovely friendships over the years and have renewed many more. If you would like to join us, just come along to our open night in Lisnagry NS on Monday, September 9 at 7.10pm. All are welcome!”.
