FOLLOWING a call for a public consultation event for the Caherdavin Playground, Limerick City and County Council has announced this will take place on October 22 between 5pm to 7pm in Caherdavin Community Centre.

Cllr Olivia O'Sullivan spearheaded the campaign, saying: “It is time now to settle the discussion on the location for the new Caherdavin Playground for once and for all.”

“I have raised €410,000 for the project, with the first €100k coming from the northside councillors who supported my proposal, and the further €310k coming in increments on my request from the Council’s Development Fund. This funding is ringfenced and we are ready for the next stage.

“The Council selected a site off the Ennis Road in June 2023 but this has proved to be unsuitable on further assessment. There have been several sites examined and discussed, including the green area at the Caherdavin Community Centre, so now it is time to finalise and get on with the development of the new playground.

“We are a growing population in the northside, badly in need of additional recreational amenities. There is too much pressure on Shelbourne Park Playground currently, we need to move now without further delay to get the new playground underway.
