SIX DERELICT properties dotted around the city and county have sold at auction for a total of €720,000. Limerick City and County Council acquired the six buildings after they were entered on the Derelict Sites Register.  It is the first time the local authority has sold multiple properties at auction. It was held in GVM’s Auction Rooms on Glentworth Street in the city. The council includes a clause that the new owners must take the property out of dereliction within 12 months of sale. The auction room was packed to capacity with standing room only for bidders. Other interested parties had chosen to bid online. GVM’s Tom Crosse was the man with the gavel in his hand. He was joined by GVM colleagues John O’Connell and Norma Murphy, as well as David Leahy and Jenny Bradshaw Ryan from Leahy Reidy Solicitors. The first lot was 19 Clare Street (pictured above), a former guest house known as Parkside. It is a substantial property, comprising  eight bedrooms and five bathrooms over three floors. There is a separate two storey mews to the rear. Bidding kicked off at €100k with plenty of interest online and in the room with 12 further bids. The hammer dropped at €190k to a delighted young man who was purchasing his first property. Lot 2 was a derelict mid-terrace property on Lower Gerard Griffin Street guiding at €30,000. Bidding started at €20k online and with five further bids, the gavel fell at €45k to a bidder in the room. It is understood that it will be included in a wider renewal of that section of the street. The next derelict property for sale was The Shannon House on Foynes’ Main Street. Guided at €150,000, it  attracted strong interest online and in the room with 11 bids in total. It sold for €195,000. Hopes are that the premises will revisit its former glory days.   Next up was The Village Inn, Feenagh which has overhead accommodation. It sold for €75,000 after 10 bids with the property likely to be returned to residential housing stock.  The next lot was a formerplaceholder image
