'While I understand we should help in every way possible we still have to keep the lights on at home': local councillor

A COUNTY councillor said a Limerick school and childcare facility have had to close this Friday because they have no water after their power went again.

Cllr John O’Donoghue said Athlacca and surrounding areas lost ESB on Thursday night. The ESB PowerCheck map shows the power went at 7.35pm last night. There is a restoration time of 8pm this Friday for the 445 customers affected.

Cllr O’Donoghue said that after making enquiries locally, “I'm told that most of our local ESB staff are up north fixing problems”.

“I was up north early in the week and they have a lot of damage. While I understand we should help in every way possible we still have to keep the lights on at home.

“We have to try and keep our farmers from pulling their hair out, help our employers keep the doors open and for employees to be able to go to work without having to worry about whether or not the local school will be open in the morning after all the mayhem in this area, especially with the snow and then the storm,” said Cllr O’Donoghue.

The Independent Ireland councillor said he has received a number of call from locals and “frustration is building”.

Temperatures fell below freezing in county Limerick last night.

The ESB Press Office has been contacted for comment.
