Limerick family clean up at National Dairy Show

Hannans and their Lisnalty Holsteins were among the local winners in Millstreet
THE TALK is the Hannan family had to leave one of their pedigree cows after them at the National Dairy Show to make room in the cattle box for all the awards!
It was a very successful trip from Friarstown, Crecora to the Green Glens Arena in Millstreet for Paul and Eileen, their three children - Bill, Jane and Claire - and a number of their Lisnalty Holsteins herd.

Lisnalty Inka Ideal 609 won the four-year-old cow born between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2020. She also won the best exhibitor bred animal and best udder award in that class.
In the junior three-year-old heifer/cow in milk born on or after August 1, 2021, Lisnalty Balterwine came second and also won the highest EBI award.

The Hannans came third in the group of three females owned by an exhibitor.
Paul’s late mum Marie, who sadly only passed away last month, was certainly looking down proudly.
The 2024 AXA National Dairy Show saw a record turnout, reaffirming its place as one of the premier dairy events in Ireland.
“The event showcases the highest standards of breeding, management, and exhibition in dairy farming and continues to serve as a pivotal platform for breeders and enthusiasts alike,” said a spokesperson.
The Hannans weren’t the only Limerick winners as Tom Lynch, of Ballyealan, Ballingarry also claimed a fistful of rosettes in the Jersey classes.
Ballyealan Chrome Louise, exhibited by Mr Lynch and Liam O’Neill, came first in the jersey heifer born before December 31, 2023 not in milk and was named reserve champion in the Jersey junior championship.
Mr Lynch’s Ballyealan Tequila Louise and Ballyealan Engineer Louise came third and fifth respectively in the jersey cow in milk class.
