A LARGE Limerick family has claimed their €1m winnings at the National Lottery HQ, it has been revealed.

It was a Monday morning to remember for the local family, who do not wish to be named.

Ryan’s Supervalu in Kilmallock sold the winning Daily Million ticket for the 9pm draw on June 30.

The head of the winning Limerick syndicate said: “Although we’ve had over two weeks to let the win sink in, we are still in a state of shock. The win came about totally by chance really.

“I was in the shop and had a couple of euros spare in my pocket so I said I’d buy a ticket for the Daily Million draw. Afterwards, when I checked the ticket on my phone, it told me it had won big but I had no clue how much!

“When I finally checked each individual number, I rushed home to tell everybody the good news but there was absolutely no way that they would believe me!”

After waiting over two weeks to collect their prize, the Limerick group have carefully drawn up a list of spending plans to celebrate their million euro win in style.

“The timing for this win couldn’t be any more perfect as we have a family wedding in Australia in the coming months, so we’ll sit down together and make some plans for how we can celebrate properly with our wider family down-under.

“I will be paying off my own mortgage and some of the others will have some small bills to pay but we won’t be going too mad with the spending.”

In true Limerick fashion, the hurling fan couldn’t resist mentioning the upcoming All Ireland Final, saying: “And of course – we have the All Ireland hurling final against Kilkenny at the weekend, so we might plan another trip to Dublin for the match.”
