The little girl died unexpectedly from a rare fatal condition

A LIMERICK father and his partner are fundraising to have a funeral in Ireland for their little toddler who tragically died from a fatal condition.

Little Maisie, who lived in Sydney with her parents - Conor Kehoe originally from Askeaton and Danielle O’Sullivan, originally from Kells, died on July 8, unexpectedly from a very rare neurometabolic disorder - Leigh Syndrome.

On the morning of Friday, July 5, Maisie’s mother was going about her normal routine and getting ready for work when her little girl had a seizure, she was rushed to hospital by ambulance and her condition worsened from there.

The little toddler who was just 17 months old, fought bravely all weekend, but died on July 8, just days after the seizure.

Doctors originally suspected it might have been bacterial meningitis, but then the rare disorder was confirmed.

Conor and Danielle have had amazing support from friends and some family in Australia, who have travelled from Ireland or from other parts of Australia to be with them.

A family member told the Limerick Leader that is has been an incredibly difficult time for Conor and Danielle and that they are all pulling together to do what they can.

They said it has been “extremely tough”, but that the support they’ve had in Sydney while so far away from family has been “absolutely fantastic.”

They added that little Maisie never “had the chance to experience life and what it’s all about.”

Maisie’s parents are extremely grateful to the doctors and nurses at Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick and the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust who have done so much to help them, as they try to bring little Maisie home for a funeral in Ireland, where she was christened last year.

Friends and family have set up a GoFundMe to help the family financially through this difficult time - donate online here or you can search GoFundMe Supporting Conor and Danielle through their loss to give what you can.
