Limerick GAA stalwart to launch local author's latest book

Piece to focus on the impact of writing
A LOCAL author will launch his fourth published book next week.
Carl Ashley, who lives in Ballywire, just across the Tipperary border, has written a new piece, entitled ‘The Power of the Written Word: your power to heal through writing”.
It will be available at a special event in the Urban Co-Op at Ballysimon Road in Limerick city from next Friday, April 11 at 4pm, where it will be launched by GAA stalwart John Loftus.
For the last few years, Carl - who describes himself as a “50-something Manucian father of four” - has been providing support and mentoring sessions to people from across the globe who see writing as a way to heal themselves.
This book is a collection of their stories and also based on his own experiences.
He has been mentoring both online and in-person as the founder of Write Coach Ireland.
“My clients come to me with an idea in mind that they want to write and publish their own book. But they might not know where to start or they might need some guidance along the way,” explains Carl.
A lot of the people who would approach Manchester-born Carl about their experiences would have experienced trauma in their lives, and perhaps would be writing as a way to deal with the pain.
“Everybody has their own story, but there are things in common. For example, personal authenticity. Becoming who you are. Personal authority - what do I leave in, what do I leave out? With the first draft, I always say, tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth. In the second draft, we can box clever,” Carl added.
Asked what he hopes people take from the book, he said: “a very realistic and experiential guide to helping them through overcoming the obstacles and roadblocks associated with writing their own book.”
