An Garda Síochána in Limerick are appealing for witnesses following a report of a firearm being discharged on Childers Road.

It is believed that this incident is connected to a long-running simmering feud between two rival Traveller factions in Limerick, which erupted over this past weekend.

It culminated on Sunday evening, August 16, when around 50 masked men armed with handguns, shotguns, slash hooks and iron bars were seen walking on the Childers Road towards the Tipperary Roundabout on the outskirts of the city.

Numerous videos from both sides of the feud have been shared and widely circulated on social media.

A major garda search operation also commenced at locations on the Childers Road at about 3:45pm yesterday afternoon.

Anyone who was in the Childers Road area between approximately 2:30pm and 3:30pm, and who may have witnessed the incident or have any information which could assist the investigation, is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
