Limerick gardai discover heroin in search
AN ARDAGH man with 66 previous convictions was caught with heroin, Newcastle West Court heard.
Patrick Quilligan, aged 31, of O’Connor Park, Ardagh pleaded guilty to possession of drugs on February 4, 2022 at Rathkeale garda station.
Inspector Gearoid Thompson, prosecuting, said Garda Thomas Moroney detained the defendant under the Misuse of Drugs Act and conveyed him to Rathkeale garda station.
“Heroin valued at €200 was discovered following a search. We are satisfied the amount is consistent with personal use,” said Insp Thompson, who added that Mr Quilligan has 66 previous convictions including six for possession of drugs, attempted robbery, burglary, assault, intoxication, no driving insurance and dangerous driving.
Michael O’Donnell, solicitor, said drugs have blighted his client’s life.
“He is now on a methadone programme and looks a lot better than he has. He has changed. He is on social welfare,” said Mr O’Donnell.
Judge Carol Anne Coolican asked for a pre-sanction report from the Probation Service before adjourning matters.
