IRISH Water is reminding customers in Limerick city and its environs that essential repair works may lead to a disruption to  their water supply over the coming week.

The State Utility, which is working with the local authority, is advising that the works to clean the reservoir at Newcastle, Castletroy are due to begin at 10am this Tuesday.

During the works, which are schedule to continue until January 17,  customers in Limerick city and its environs may experience intermittent, temporary discolouration of their water.

If discoloration occurs, it is recommended that households run the kitchen tap for a few minutes to see if the water returns to a clear colour.

Commenting on the works, Duane O’Brien, Operational Lead with Irish Water, said: “These scheduled maintenance works are necessary to continue to provide a safe and reliable supply to Limerick City and its environs. Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience when essential maintenance is carried out on the water network and thanks customers for their patience while we complete works as quickly as possible."

According to a public notice, those impacted by the works are being advised to allow between two and three hours after the estimated restoration time for their supply to fully return.
