Limerick man announces intention to run as Independent in 2024 local elections

A YOUNG Pallaskenry man has announced his intention to run as an Independent in the 2024 local elections in Limerick.
Tommy Hartigan, aged 23, will seek election in the six-seat Adare-Rathkeale area.
"I’m passionate about politics, and feel I can make a difference for the people of the area, people of all ages,” he said.
Mr Hartigan feels strongly about rural areas and will endeavour to make them an attractive place to live and work “which sometimes is not the case”.
The Independent candidate said this is highlighted by the recent emigration to Australia by six of his friends.
Some of his goals, if elected, include support of local business, rural life sustainability and preservation of local tradition, while also allowing for advancement with the natural advancement of time.
Mr Hartigan is involved with several local associations, such as Askeaton/Ballysteen Community Council, Ballysteen GAA, Ballysteen FC with whom he has won trophies as manager, secretary of Shannon Duck Project, Ballysteen/Kilcornan/Pallaskenry Gun Club and chairperson of West Limerick Grey Partridge Project.
A past pupil of Pallaskenry National School and Coláiste Mhuire Askeaton, he is also the holder of a qualification in Gamekeeping and Wildlife Management from University of the Highlands and Islands (Inverness College) in Scotland.
Mr Hartigan is the eldest son of Richard and Hazel, who many will have seen on TV as she was a leader in Operation Transformation in 2021.
