Limerick mother tells son to sit driving test after numerous offences

A YOUNG learner driver stopped by gardai for the third time for driving while unaccompanied has been instructed by his mother to sit his test, Newcastle West Court heard.
Michael Mulcaire, aged 19, of Abbeycourt, Rathkeale pleaded guilty to driving on a provisional licence while unaccompanied by a person with a full licence.
Garda Jason Walmsley gave evidence of stopping Mr Mulcaire at Upper Main Street, Abbeylands, Rathkeale on December 12, 2022.
Inspector Barry Manton, prosecuting, said the accused has 10 previous convictions including two for learner driver driving while unaccompanied and a dangerous driving offence for which he was disqualified for one year.
Ted McCarthy, solicitor for Mr Mulcaire, said his client is not driving at the moment.
“When he does resume he has been instructed by his mother to sit his test. He is not working. He is living at home with his mother,” said Mr McCarthy.
Judge Carol Anne Coolican convicted and fined Mr Mulcaire €350 for being a provisional driver driving while unaccompanied.
