Limerick motorists to face increase in toll charges

TOLL charges are set to increase from next month, Limerick motorists are being warned, with the news being confirmed by the Department of Transport and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

The new higher prices include the N18 Limerick Tunnel, which, from July 1, will cost a standard car €2.10 rather than €2, a 10cent increase.

Motorcyclists will now be charged €1.10 rather than €1 while the cost for buses will increase by 30cent - jumping from €3.50 to €3.80.

The news of these higher prices come after a delay in implementation, with talks of a 5% increase first taking place in November last.

Price increases were then supposed to hit tolls nationwide in January 2023, but have been delayed now until July 1, when they will come into effect.

TII released a statement confirming the toll increases are being driven by the current rate of inflation (CPI). These new price hikes on toll fees come in the wake of the increased fuel costs, which saw petrol rise by 6cent and diesel, 5cent per litre from the beginning of June.

Two further fuel price increases in excise are planned for September 1 and October 31, by which time Finance Minister Michael McGrath will have fully restored excise levels on fuel to early 2022 levels.

Other tolls affected nationwide include on the M7, which links Limerick to Dublin via the toll plaza near Portlaoise.

The tolled parts of each of the following will see increases too: M50 in Dublin, M1, M3, M4, M8, N6 Galway and the N25 Waterford, while Dublin Port Tunnel is the only route where tolls will not increase.
