Thief gained access via electrical box located outside of retail premises
A BREAK-in to a Limerick city retail premises prompts garda warning for business-owners to check their security shutters.
A thief in Limerick tampered with an electrical box of shutter controls outside a retail premises, gaining access to the store.
Gardaí have now urged businesses to check their shutters and get controls moved inside to prevent break-ins.
Described as an “excellent layer of security” by Sergeant Ber Leetch, crime prevention officer at Henry St garda station, shutters are generally used on businesses like jewellers, pharmacies, garages or shops with high value goods.
Sgt Leetch said: “There was a recent break-in in Limerick where the CCTV shows that the thief, wearing gloves and his face covered, tampered with the electrical box of the shutter controls and managed to open the shutter.
“He then smashed the interior glass door and entered the premises.
“Retail premises should ask their security company for a review of their shutters, and if the controls are outside they can be moved inside and remotely operated at the close of business.”
