KILMALLOCK has been named as one of the towns with the oldest populations in Ireland following the Census 2022 results.

Kilmallock with an average age of 42.5 years was analysed under towns with a population between 1,500 and 10,000. It is the town with the tenth oldest population in the country within it’s population group

The town’s population according to the latest census figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) stands at 1,761.

Of towns/villages with a population of at least 500 people, Murroe was the village with the youngest population, standing at 32.5 years, whilst Foynes had the oldest population with 44.5 years. Nationally, the average age was 38.8 years.

Commenting on the results, Statistician in the Census Division Dr Tracy Clegg said: “Profile One, which we are publishing today, provides a wealth of information on population changes in our counties, towns and cities since April 2016.

“It provides detailed data on the distribution of the population across our towns and cities and their age profiles, the place of birth of the usual residents of each county, and details of population movements into, within, and out of each county since 2016.

“Looking at Limerick, we can see that Newcastle West was the largest town, with a population of 7,209 in April 2022.”
