Limerick warning as temperatures could climb to 31 degrees as Shannon smashes May record

Calm before the storm as thunder and lightning predicted for Limerick this Wednesday night
LIMERICK has been placed under a weather warning with the mercury set to explode this Wednesday afternoon.
Temperatures are expected to top 30 degrees Celsius across the city and county and Met Éireann has placed Limerick under a yellow warning.
This remains in place until this evening, with the forecaster suggesting temperatures will peak at 3pm this Wednesday with Shannonside under blazing sun.
Clare, Kerry and Tipperary are also under the yellow warning.
On Monday, a temperature of 28.6 degrees was recorded at Shannon Airport, provisionally breaking the record for the highest temperature ever documented in the month of May by Met Éireann. Ireland’s previous record of 28.4 degrees had been set at Ardfert in Co Kerry almost 30 years ago.
But this appears to be the calm before the storm. As from this teatime, Met Eireann is forecasting heavy rain and thunder for Limerick.
Temperatures are expected to drop by one-third to just under 20 degrees Celsius.
Don't bank on the sunshine to trouble Limerick's skies on Thursday, with temperatures forecast to fall further, down to 15 degrees. The June Bank Holiday weekend will be cooler still, with cloud and rain forecast.
Downpours are expected on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
And temperatures are set to fall yet further to between 10 to 12 degrees Celsius.
