National Outlook

TONIGHT: Quite widespread fog likely on tonight in a light easterly or variable airflow. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +5 degrees, coldest in the north with some frost forming.

TOMORROW: Fog will affect northern areas for a time Friday morning. Rain will continue to track northwards across the country with a mix of bright spells and scattered showers following from the south. Highest temperatures of 5 to 11 degrees, coldest in Ulster. Light to moderate easterly winds, veering southwesterly.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Scattered outbreaks of showery rain, potentially turning heavy in Atlantic coastal counties with some drier intervals towards the east. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 8 degrees. Mainly moderate southerly winds, turning quite blustery along southern and western coasts.

SATURDAY (CHRISTMAS EVE): Mostly cloudy with scattered showers, some dry and sunnier periods too. The showers will remain heaviest along Atlantic coastal counties with the best of the dry intervals towards the east. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees. Becoming breezier with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, easing later in the day.

SUNDAY (CHRISTMAS DAY): Current indications are that Christmas Day will be quite cloudy with further showers, merging to longer spells of rain in places. Some dry and bright periods too. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees. Light breezes, westerly or variable.

FURTHER OUTLOOK: Considerable uncertainty remains for the further outlook. Early indications are that it will turn colder for Monday with showers, some possibly wintry in the north. Becoming milder again by midweek and remaining unsettled.
