A LIMERICK volunteer who has been involved with the Special Olympics for over 40 years has been awarded for her contributions.

Dorothy Kavanagh from Limerick, has been involved with Special Olympics for over 44 years, since she took up employment in the Daughters of Charity, Lisnagry in 1979.

She has dedicated herself to providing children and adults with intellectual disabilities with opportunities to develop through participation in sport.

It's because of this, Dorothy was awarded the Distinguished Service Award at the National Special Olympics Volunteer Awards.

“The unwavering support and commitment of all the volunteers has a profound impact on athletes’ lives, and the Special Olympics mission,” said Munster Regional Director of Special Olympics Ireland, Eóin Ó Béara.

“These awards serve as a small token of our appreciation for their service.”
