Limerick's finest receives mayor’s seal of approval

Patrick English, Anthony O'Donnell and Marguerite Quinn honoured by Mayor Gerald Mitchell
IF YOU looked up the definition of 'community' in the dictionary you will see the words 'Patrick English'.
The proud Anglesboro man, and our own long-serving local notes correspondent, was honoured by Mayor Gerald Mitchell at a mayoral reception. Mr English was joined by fellow recipients Anthony O’Donnell and Marguerite Quinn at the prestigious event in County Hall. It is one of the highest honours the mayor can bestow.
The mayor began his speech with Mr English who he recognised for his long number of years of service in various roles within the community.
Mayor Mitchell read out all Mr English’s achievements which was a task in itself.
They include his long service to Anglesboro Community Council, Drama Group, Tidy Towns, Historical Society, Galtee Gaels and Limerick GAA.
And even that list is just scratching the surface of Mr English’s contribution to society.
On top of all that, he finds the time to sit down every week and pen the Anglesboro notes for the Leader.
“Patrick, you are a deserving recipient as a community activist who puts your community first and central which is truly commendable,” said Mayor Mitchell.
Anthony O’Donnell was recognised for his unwavering commitment to the community of St Mary's Park in Limerick city, as an activist and volunteer on various committees working for the betterment of the people of Kings Island. Mr O'Donnell won the recent national award for the Community Activist of the Year in Dublin.
“It is my honour to acknowledge you Anthony and in so doing l am acknowledging the inhabitants of King's Island, and Limerick in general. It is heart-warming to be recognised by your own people in this great city of ours,” said Mayor Mitchell.
The mayor said Marguerite Quinn has made a remarkable recovery from a serious medical emergency in 2017.
“She has represented Ireland on a team of eight at the World Blind and Visually Impaired Tennis Competition in Birmingham in 2023 and came fourth in the world which is an amazing achievement. You have faced and overcome personal challenges in your life, with your positive mental resolve, which has to be admired and honoured,” he said.
