Limerick's local authority awarded for work with youth

LIMERICK’S local authority was awarded for their ‘engagement with young people’ at a national ceremony.
Limerick City and County Council (LCCC) won the President’s Award at this year’s Irish Planning Awards, whose purpose is to highlight ‘examples of excellent public participation and best practice’.
LCCC won for its ‘Young Person Participation in Land Use Planning’ project and were presented with the award by Mary Mac Mahon and Kieran O’Donnell TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Local Government and Planning.
The Limerick project implemented a school consultation programme to engage young people in the preparation of the development plan and local area plan processes.
Speaking at the awards, IPI President Mary Mac Mahon said: "The Irish Planning Awards celebrate our diverse, dynamic, and sustainable projects, showcasing the positive impact of planning on our communities.”
The Land Development Agency was also commended for the Colbert Quarter Spatial Framework in the Sustainable Communities and Placemaking category.
The Awards this year recognised innovation and excellence in Irish planning in eight categories.
The award-winning Limerick project sees students engage with the Council and influence how the future of their communities are planned for.
