Limerick's Redemptorist Christmas Hamper Appeal returns for 50th anniversary
THE REDEMPTORIST Christmas Hamper Appeal returns for its 50th anniversary.
The Christmas Hamper Appeal aims to have food on every table in Limerick and the surrounding areas each Christmas.
Fr Seamus Enright of the Redemptorists estimates that approximately 300,000 Christmas hampers have been distributed since the appeal began in 1972.
This year, according to the Redemptorists will be one of the toughest years yet as demand for hampers has gone up by 15% and the cost of hampers has risen by 11%.
Speaking at the launch of this year’s Christmas hamper appeal, Fr Enright commented that none of this would have been possible without the extraordinary generosity of the people of Limerick and the surrounding areas.
“We are depending on people’s generosity again this year. Christmas 2022 is going to be a particularly challenging one.
“Children go to school hungry in Limerick every morning, People go to bed hungry every night.
Older people have to decide between having something to eat and lighting a fire.
please help us to help others at Christmas. Every little helps,” Fr Enright said.
Fr Enright and friends will be collecting hamper donations on the corner of Sarsfield Street and O’Connell Street in Limerick city on December 17 and at Dunnes in the Jetland Shopping Centre on December 23.
The Christmas hamper donation centre will be open at the Redemptorist Church on South Circular Road in the city from Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 4pm.
You can also send donations to Fr Seamus Enright at the Redemptorists and they have asked that all cheque donations be made out to the Redemptorist Perpetual Help Fund.
