“DISGRACE to the tradition” and multi-instrumentalist, Lisa Canny, will bring her progressive showcase, FOLK+ to Limerick.

With the immersive experience, FOLK+, the Mayo native explores a multidisciplinary concept merging music, dance and motion graphics. On February 17, Lisa Canny will perform at Cask, in Castletroy, Limerick.

Having already received international acclaim, FOLK+ features a short film, directed by Canny herself, that presents a “feast for the ears, eyes and soul” for audiences to get a glimpse into the mind of the artist.

Uniting Canny’s roots in Irish traditional music with a take on pop, RnB and electronica, the showcase sets the tone for quite the live performance.

For Canny, it’s all about the live experience. “I spent five years in London, writing, producing and collaborating to find exactly what it is I wanted with my music. I wanted to capture that essence of ‘live’, ‘real’ and ‘human’ in this recorded EP project too and so applied the theory of participatory discrepancies as a creative lens throughout.”

According to her, growing up in the “trad world” in Ireland was the most amazing experience she could have asked for. However, expanding out of it has not always been met with a positive response.

“I’m excited to bring this project back home because I feel it is the first true expression of my unique journey and I understand its potential in inspiring other Irish musicians to explore new ground and expand their creativity,” Canny concluded.
