Major traffic disruption expected on busy Limerick road over bridge lift

Bridge over the Old Cork Road at the Kimallock Roundabout on the R512 to be raised by 10 inches
COMMUTERS are warned of major traffic disruption this weekend due to a bridge lift on the outskirts of Limerick city.
There will be a full road closure at the busy R512 Killmallock road roundabout from 10am this Friday, October 16 to 5am on Monday, October 19.
The works are required to raise the height of the bridge over the Old Cork Road by 230mm (10 inches), said Cllr Sarah Kiely in a post on her Facebook page.
There will be no pedestrian access during the road closure as it is a “complex operation”.
Limerick City and County Council say traffic travelling in the direction of the city on the R512 will be diverted by turning right onto the L1170 Drombanny Road. Local traffic may use the L5109 Drombanny Road.
Heavy goods vehicles will be diverted via the R509, R527, N24, R513 and R514, rejoining the R512. Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times. See Limerick.ie for more information.
There will also be alterations to Irish Rail’a services this Saturday and Sunday due to the bridge works with bus transfers between Colbert Station and Limerick Junction in place.

Irish Rail and Limerick City and County Council apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
