Moves underway to appoint design team for former bank in Limerick town

INNOVATE Limerick has been tasked with the responsibility of appointing a design team for the former Bank of Ireland building in Rathkeale.
The appointed design team will carry out feasibility reports and will be tasked with developing an agreed scheme that can then be brought through the appropriate planning process.
A question seeking an update on the progress regarding the design and refurbishment and the future re-opening of the former bank building at Main Street, Rathkeale was submitted by Councillor Stephen Keary ahead of last week's monthly meeting of the Adare-Rathkeale Municipal District.
In reply to Cllr Keary’s question, a council official stated: “Innovate Limerick has been tasked with the responsibility to bring forward a plan for the future use of the old Bank of Ireland Building in Rathkeale.
“Once approved through planning Limerick City and County Council (LCCC) and Innovate Limerick will also be seeking funding through the Rural Regeneration Development Fund and town and village grants to deliver the approved scheme which will be a good example of delivering on Governments town centre first policy.
The local authority's intended use of the former bank building is for it to be a shared workspace for individual workers and small companies.
Bank of Ireland ceased operations in the building in October 2021 and it was then purchased by the council last summer.
