GARDAI have made several detections for speeding across the Limerick division as part of National Slow Down Day.

The detections were made by members of the Roads Policing Unit earlier this Friday as part of the 24-hour operation which continues until 7am on Saturday.

Supported by the Road Safety Authority, the aim of National Slow Down Day is to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding, increase compliance with speed limits and act as a deterrent to driving at excessive or inappropriate speed.

According to an update, released this Friday afternoon, there have been a number of notable speeding detections in Limerick.

They include a motorist travelling at 108km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N21 at Blossomhill Rathkeale and a motorist travelling at 92km/h in a 80km/h zone on the N24 Grange West, Caherconlish.

In another incident, a vehicle was caught travelling at 123km/h in a 100km/h zone on the main N20 Limerick to Cork road at Creggane near Charleville while another motorist was detected travelling a 119km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N18 at Clonmoney West near Bunratty.

National Slow Down Day continues until 7am on Christmas Eve.
