Munster and Ireland rugby star celebrates magical wedding in Spanish sunshine
MUNSTER and Ireland rugby player Joey Carbery and wife, Robyn Flanagan are celebrating their recent marriage in Cádiz, Spain, as they are joined by friends, family and other rugby stars.
The couple tied the knot on May 9, in Dublin, after Joey proposed to Robyn on a trip to New York, getting down on one knee in Central Park in January 2022.
The two were in a long-term relationship of six years prior to getting engaged, and are now celebrating their marriage abroad, having already tied the knot in an ‘intimate’ ceremony at home.
The couple and friends arrived in Marbella, Spain earlier this week, as they prepared for their “wedding, part 2” in style, according to Robyn’s sibling, Ben.
Two days of festivities took place on June 1 and June 2, according to the website dedicated to Joey and Robyn’s wedding celebrations. The first day kicked off in Cádiz, while day two was at a venue in Marbella, two hours east.
There is love in the air for another of Joey’s teammate and Limerick native Conor Murray too, as he prepares to marry fiancée Joanna Cooper, who are soon to be wed on bank holiday Monday, June 5 in Portugal.
Sharing a few snaps of their civil ceremony on social media last month, Joey’s wife, Robyn said: “A dream day. Special and intimate. So looking forward to celebrating with our friends and family soon” while Joey made a post of his own, commenting “Step one: complete”.
Guests will be hopping over to Conor Murray and Joanna Cooper's Portugal venue and are reportedly on route, with the likes of other Munster stars Craig Casey, Peter O'Mahony, RG Snyman and Dave Kilcoyne, with their respective partners jetting off to Spain's neighbouring country to attend.
Joey made his Munster debut in 2018, previously playing with Leinster. He played his first World Cup at age 23 and reunited with his now wife, Robyn, after she had lived in Paris for a year. The couple are together long term, prior to marrying in May.
