The man contacted gardaí when he saw something suspicious

A NOSEY neighbour helped to prevent a crime taking place in a Limerick estate.

At 12:50am on Thursday, April 4, a resident in his 30s saw a car acting suspiciously in his housing estate in Raheen.

He rang gardai who came to the estate to be told by the witness that he had since seen three men run from the rear of a house wearing balaclavas.

Gardai called to the house where a woman in her 20s opened the door. She thought she had heard a noise at the back of her house.

Gardai checked and could see a mark on the back door from a tool. It was clear that these males were attempting to break into her house.

Sergeant Ber Leetch, crime prevention officer at Henry Street garda station said: "It was the neighbour that prevented the burglary, firstly because he was observant but secondly because he rang local gardai.

"If you see something suspicious in your neighbourhood, be a good neighbour and inform your local gardai".
