AN ALL-ISLAND orchestra of doctors will perform a special charity concert to raise funds for a Limerick-based support service for children.

The Irish Doctors Orchestra (IDO) will play at the Redemptorist Church this week in a bid to raise funds for The Children’s Grief Centre in Limerick, a support service for children and young people affected by loss through death, separation or divorce.

The programme will feature Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, Von Suppè’s Light Cavalry Overture, as well as Haydn’s Oboe Concerto. Conducted by Liam Daly, it will star surgical doctor in training Dr Lukas O’Brien as oboe soloist for the Haydn Oboe Concerto.

Founded in 2020 to allow doctors to reconnect and play together during the pandemic, IDO is an all-island orchestra of medical professionals who also happen to be classically trained musicians.

After humble beginnings, the numbers have swelled to almost 200.

The concert will take place on Sunday, May 14 at the Redemptorist Church on South Circular Road at 4.30pm. All funds raise will go directly to the charity.
