KILTEELY Tidy Towns aren’t sitting on their laurels despite all their success in Going for Gold and numerous competitions over the years.
The hard-working committee headed up by John McCarthy have just launched a biodiversity project and revealed new sculptures in the east Limerick village’s community garden.
Chainsaw sculptor extraordinaire Will Fogarty, known as Fear na Coillte from nearby Hospital, has created a fox, badger, pheasant, hare, and owl to name but a few.
Mr McCarthy said all the 19 sculptures were sponsored by people, businesses, organisations from the locality, and a number of local councillors. Members of Kilteely Tidy Towns were joined at the launch by pupils from Kilteely National School.
“We have pushed standards very high this year to go forward in the prizegiving competitions. We have over 500 plants gone in there. We have won a good few prizes over the years,” said Mr McCarthy.
The proud Kilteely man is marking two significant milestones this year. He turned 80 in March and is also celebrating 50 years working for the betterment of Kilteely between his job in the then Limerick County Council and with the local Tidy Towns group.
“We have a wonderful committee - everybody is working very hard, all the different organisations are putting their shoulders to the wheel,” said Mr McCarthy.
And with Mr McCarthy steering the ship they will continue to keep on growing!
