SPOOKY season is in full swing in one Limerick village, as the residents of Ballyorgan showcased their creativity in the community's first-ever Halloween scarecrow competition.
The village has been transformed into a Halloween haven, with over 50 handmade scarecrow creations decorating streets and houses.
With some groups travelling from as far as 25 kilometres away to take part, the competition has attracted entries from families, children, schools, after-school groups, preschools and childminders.
Kate Magnier - who organised the competition alongside Amanda O’Donoghue - expressed a “huge thank you” to everyone who entered, supported and helped to organise the event.
“The organisers are delighted with the response. We've had a fantastic entry of over 50 scarecrows for our first year, which we're absolutely delighted with. It's been brilliant to see everyone getting involved and so many visitors coming to Ballyorgan to enjoy all the different creations.
“We already have such great community spirit here and so many fabulous events throughout the year, so we thought it would be lovely to do something for Halloween that everyone could get involved in. It's really brought a lovely buzz to the village. Ballyorgan Scarecrow Competition has shown the power of community spirit and brought a little extra Halloween magic to the area!” Kate said.
Planning is already underway for the next community event, with the Christmas market set to arrive in Ballyorgan on December 5, as well as a visit to Santa’s Grotto.
Speaking on the upcoming events, Kate said: “It promises to be another wonderful opportunity for families and the wider community to come together and enjoy some festive Christmas magic.”
