IF WE are to obey the ninth commandment - thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour - first of all we must know who they are. As many get up early for the commute to work and arrive home late, the days of a leisurely chat over the wall have begun to disappear. A street feast was held in Boher to encourage neighbours, and especially new homeowners in the area, to meet one other. Mary Finucane, of Boher Community Development Association who supported the event, said all people had to do was come to the community centre with a dish to share with a neighbour. Organisers, Sarah McManus, Siobhan Jackman, Megan Buckley, Aine Lynch and Jessica Hanly worked very hard to make this event a success. And the feedback from the street feast has been very positive. Three of the attendees were Susan O’Brien, Derek Noonan and Sarah Fitzgerald. Susan built a house in Boher while Derek and Sarah purchased properties. Sarah said when she was growing up in west Waterford, she couldn’t wait to leave home for college and experience city life and bright lights! “I studied in UL and met and married a Limerick man. We set up home in Limerick city. Once we had small children, I had a desire to bring them up in a rural community and we found a house to make a home in Boher,” said Sarah, who got involved in community activities locally. “I have great neighbours who are a wonderful support and now count as friends. “One of my brothers thinks it hilarious that for all my talk of bright lights. I have actually ended up back in the same parish I grew up in - just in a different geographical location!” said Sarah. Susan said Boher is unique, in a non-stop AI world, where you find genuine people, who listen, care, and support each other. “Boher has pubs full of character, a church on a hill, community centre where shenanigans are had, tennis court that is always full for Wimbledon and a new gym and sauna to make us the fittest parish. “Walks in Boher can be peaceful or often speckled with waves, smiles
