A VIGIL was held in Arthurs Quay Park to mark World Suicide Prevention Day, with a large crowd gathering to remember those lost to suicide and to support those affected by it.

Taking place on Thursday evening, September 10, the word ‘hope’ was spelled out in candles on the ground of the park. Local Councillors Shane Hickey-O’Mara and Maurice Quinlivan were in attendance, as were members of the Limerick Treaty Suicide Prevention group.

World Suicide Prevention Day was first organised by the International Association for Suicide Prevention in conjunction with the World Health Organisation. The Limerick vigil was set-up in 2018 by therapist Amanda Clifford and has run annually since its inception.
