Public meeting to be held over traffic measures

A LARGE attendance is expected to attend a public meeting, at Charleville Park Hotel on Monday, January 29 at 7.30pm.
Charleville Community Forum will be facilitating this meeting.
Invitations are extended to representatives from Cork County Council, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, the Irish Haulage Association, the Office of Public Works, along with three Cork North West TDs and our four local councillors.
This meeting is an opportunity for any persons, impacted in any way by the traffic situation in Charleville, to engage with the relevant representatives.
The public make reference to the severe traffic congestion that occurs on a daily basis. They outline the impact on health and the environment, from the carbon and nitrogen monoxide emissions.
The vast amount of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) passing through the town, causes lots of frustration and fear for pedestrians, with many stating they are a negative image of the town, relating the town to a highway.
Other issues include the frightening speed of traffic during non business hours, from both cars and HGVs.
Pedestrians make reference to the lack of digital signage, reminding drivers of the speed limit.
The most pressing question the public ask is why is there not a ring road in Charleville after 10 pedestrian fatalities in as many years.
Charleville Community Forum, from hearing these concerns, believe it’s time for stakeholders, and Cork County Council to finally consider the residents of Charleville, the general public who come into the town for work, shopping, attending various schools, church, sporting activities and socialising to make Charleville a safer place for everyone.
The people of Charleville have endured the town being abandoned, in relation to infrastructure for many years.
Now is the time to deliver for Charleville.
Enough is enough!
