RIP: Major disruption to rail services amid tragic incident on Limerick Junction line

Emergency services are currently attending the scene and rail services have been suspended until further notice
COMMUTERS are being advised of major disruptions to rail services following what’s being described as a “tragic incident" on the line between Thurles and Limerick Junction, this Monday morning.
Customers are being been advised that the disruption is impacting train services travelling in both directions between Heuston Station in Dublin and stations in Cork, Kerry and Limerick.
Emergency services are currently attending the scene and rail services have been suspended until further notice.
The line is also closed as a result to allow for examinations to take place at the scene of the incident.
A spokesperson for Iarnród Éireann said significant disruption is expected for most this Monday, August 17, and that it is working to arrange bus transfers for the services that have been affected by the tragic incident.
“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused,” said the spokesperson.
There were longer than normal queues in Limerick’s Colbert Station at 9am.
An Garda Síochána have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and a file will be prepared for the local coroner.
It’s expected that an inquest will take place in due course.
