Route revealed for this year's St Patrick's Day celebration in Limerick

National celebration expected to attract tens of thousands to the city
THE THOUSANDS of people who will take part in Limerick’s St Patrick’s Day parade next month will again skip the main section of O’Connell Street in favour of Henry Street.
Ever since work began on revitalising Limerick’s main thoroughfare in 2021, the route of the parade on Ireland’s national day has taken in O’Connell Avenue and Henry Street.
And Limerick Live understands it is set to be the same again this year, with the reviewing stand based outside Dunnes Stores and opposite the Savoy Hotel.

It comes as Limerick City and County Council publishes information on a variety of road closures across the city centre for the annual parade on Monday, March 17, and the International Band Championship taking place a day previously.
Participants on St Patrick’s Day will gather at the Sarsfield Barracks, before marching across to O'Connell Avenue, where the event will kick off at noon.
In readiness for this, some roads in the city will be closed to traffic from 7am on both the Sunday, March 16 and the following day.
On both days, cars will be allowed to return by between 3pm and 3.30pm.
Parking will not be allowed on these roads from 3am each morning for around 12 hours.
Despite the majority of the thoroughfare not hosting the parade, O’Connell Street is to be closed on both Sunday and Monday between its junction with Mallow Street to its intersection with Patrick Street.
The southern banks of the River Shannon will be closed to regular vehicles on both days: council has advertised closures at Russell’s Quay, Bishop’s Quay, Howley’s Quay, Harvey’s Quay and Honan’s Quay.
Locke Quay, Charlotte’s Quay, Arthur’s Quay, Merchant’s Quay and George’s Quay will also close to traffic.
Pedestrian access is to be maintained at all times, and emergency service vehicles will also be allowed to use the streets if required.
