Safety update sought on Limerick village junction two years after calls for improvements

It was confirmed that works including additional road markings, signage and vegetation maintenance have been carried out at the junction
AN UPDATE has been sought on safety measures carried out at a busy Limerick village junction two years after calls for improved safeguarding at the location.
Sinn Fein councillor PJ Carey raised the query over the safety measures taken at a junction in Effin at the April meeting of the Cappamore-Kilmallock Municipal District.
Cllr Carey sought from the council "an update on my motion from May 2024 regarding safety measures at the junction at Davy's Bar, Effin."

In his original motion in 2024, Cllr Carey called on the MD this location be "appraised for review and that safety measures are recommended for necessary improvements, be it mountable roundabout, road markings, improved sight-lines etc."
The written reply said that it would be reviewed to determine what measures would be required but noted "any improvement works that may be needed will be costed and a submission made to the relevant funding authority for consideration."
Senior Executive Engineer for the district, Darragh Corcoran, replied to Cllr Carey's question with a written response, saying "following the motion submitted in May 2024, the Cappamore-Kilmallock Municipal District Office carried out a revised junction upgrade at this location."
He explained "the works included additional road markings and road signage at, and on approach to this junction. Scheduled maintenance of overgrown vegetation is also in place to improve sight lines for vehicle exiting."
