Santa’s special trip to Limerick school

A VERY special guest from the North Pole arrived at Catherine McAuley School this week with a fire brigade and Garda escort ensuring his safe arrival.
After a tremendous success last year with the festive grotto, Santa arrived once again, this Monday, to spread the Christmas spirit with the children of the city school.
The pupils of room 16, along with their teachers Trevor Delahunty, Louise Cormack and Bridget White created the magical grotto so Santa could relax upon his exciting arrival.
Discussing the crafting of the grotto, Trevor Delahunty started, “Myself and Bridget asked for donations of trees that people weren’t using on our own social media. The response from the community was immense with many car loads of trees and decorations all dropped off to the school before the big event. We got offered some lights, wreaths, trees and a light up Santa Claus all for use in the grotto” continued the teacher.
“There was a great Christmas spirit around the school in the build-up.” agreed Mr Delahunty, “many staff got involved from woodwork teachers to home economics teachers.”
On the day, gifts were given out from the big man himself. Many of the younger students got presents from Santa along with a selection box for all students in the school.
It was “a magical experience”, said a delighted Mr Delahunty.
“A big thank you is extended to all those who donated and to those who helped organise Santa’s arrival, the community Gardaí, and Limerick Fire Service.”
Plans are already in place to add to next year’s Christmas experience as Santa has already booked himself back into Catherine McAuley’s for December 2023.
