Sculpture with ‘magical powers’ installed at Limerick's Hunt Museum

A NEW ‘magical’ sculpture has been unveiled in the gardens of the Hunt Museum in Limerick city centre.
The museum partnered with Kirby Group Engineering on the project which took a total of eight months to complete.
Commenting following the unveiling of the sculpture, Curator of Education and Outreach at the Hunt Museum Maria Cagney explained how it came about.
"The Group were immediately taken with our Dodecahedron after they saw the sculpture of our Etruscan jug produced by Tacumi. We then digitised the object in 3D and they used this scan to fabricate the sculptural representation of the Dodecahedron which was installed in the museum’s garden," she said.
The Dodecahedron has been said to hold ‘magical powers’ as well as many other uses since first discovered in Roman Times such as a measuring instrument.
However its uses have not yet been proven and there is much speculation as to what the purpose is.
The new sculpture will remain stationary however it contains built in lighting which will light up at night and will be visible from across the river.
The official launch of the sculpture will take place on June 23 in the ‘Museum in a Garden.’
