Seachtain na Gaeilge festival launched in Limerick

The festival, which commences on March 1, lasts for 17 days
THE programme for this year’s Seachtain na Gaeilge festival in Limerick has been announced by Irish language network, Comhluadar Luimnigh.
While seachtain might suggest a week long festival, Seachtain na Gaeilge 2024 actually lasts for 17 days commencing on March 1, and will conclude on St Patrick’s Day.
Ava Nic Searraigh, development officer for Comhluadar Luimnigh, is looking forward to an eclectic range of events across the city and county.
“This year we have expanded our programme even further as we constantly strive to reach new communities, and cater for diverse interests. While firm favourites like the ciorcal comhrá in the Milk Market and the pop-up Gaeltachts feature again in this year’s programme, there are new and innovative events also such as an Escape Room experience as Gaeilge for the 20-30 age cohort, bowling as Gaeilge for families, and bilingual storytelling with Eddie Lenihan in Wickham Way,” outlined Ava.
“The bilingual storytelling with Eddie Lenihan is being organised in conjunction with Limerick City and County Council,” she said, adding that Comhluadar is working with the Limerick City and County Council, and with civic and community organisations and different businesses across the 17 days.
For the children - Giggles the clown will pay a visit to the Milk Market on the morning of Saturday, March 16, and to the Manor Fields in Adare later that day.
“Giggles’ ability to craft everyday items, such as guitars, swords and teddies out of balloons never fails to amaze, and he promises a special duais or prize for every child who uses their Irish with him.”
Members of the Irish language community will have a chance to pay tribute to the late Conradh na Gaeilge stalwart Seán Ó Morónaigh at a commemorative celebration of his life in Halla Íde, Thomas Street on Friday, March 1 at 8pm.
Other events take place in Ahane, Adare, Castleconnell, Analog Devices, Glenbrohane and more.
