AS PUPILS prepare to embark on a new academic year, Limerick City and County Council reminds motorists to factor in additional travel time for the back to school journey with increased traffic on the roads.

Emphasising the importance of staying informed about potential disruptions on regular travel routes to schools and colleges, Brian Kennedy, director for transportation and mobility at Limerick City and County Council, encourages all commuters to manage their travel plans.

"With the commencement of the academic season, traffic volume naturally surges on our thoroughfares across the city and county. Road maintenance is a year-round necessity and you may find some changes on your usual route after the summer break.

"We encourage road users to be familiar with potential delays on their normal routes to work, schools and colleges. Preparedness ensures a smoother transition into the academic year for yourself and your family," said Mr Kennedy.

Strategic route planning in advance remains a proven method to optimise travel time for all commuters during peak hours.
