THE STREETS of Limerick city were busy on Monday morning as shoppers tried to grab a deal in the St Stephen's Day sales.

While queues weren't as obvious as previous years, there was still a buzz in the city as shoppers tried to get their hands on some bargains.

Liam Dwan, Store Manager at Brown Thomas on O'Connell Street said the shop had a busy start to the morning.

Speaking to LimerickLive on Monday morning, Mr Dwan said: "There has been a good turnout so far and the weather is favourable too.

"Business has been brisk. With the races on today and the Munster match this evening in Thomond Park there are a lot of people around the city.

"There have been no queues as such, it has been steady. Some items would have been on sale pre-Christmas so there is not the same volume of people as there have been in previous years.

"It will be more spread out throughout the day but we expect it to be busy all day".

Some retailers made the decision to keep their doors closed on Stephen's Day with fashion chain Next amongst the shops choosing not to start their sale until December 27.
