Sons to run laps of every GAA club for Milford Care Centre in memory of their mother

The O’Neill brothers from Tipperary will run a lap of every GAA club in memory of their late mother to raise funds for Milford Care Centre
THREE sons will run a lap in every GAA club in Tipperary in memory of their mother to raise funds for Milford Care Centre.
Over the course of three days, from October 23-25, brothers Mark, Paul and Eoin O’Neill, supported by their father Michael will run a lap of each of the 72 GAA clubs in Tipperary in memory of their mother Margaret.
On the first day, they will run laps in 28 clubs, another 24 clubs on the second day and finishing up with the final 20 clubs on the final day wrapping up at their home club of Kilruane McDonagh’s.
Eoin said that once they mapped out all of the clubs, the sheer scale of what they are taking on really hit them.
“It’s a big county and the span of the county is big, it’s a bit mad and it is ambitious.”
Eoin described his mother Margaret as someone who had a deep faith and was very determined.
Before she died, she was doing a pastoral ministry course in Mary Immaculate College, which she sadly did not get to complete.
She wanted to work with supporting families through faith with baptisms, marriages and death.
“Limerick was a big part of her life and her brother Willie Teehan is parish priest in Castleconnell,” Eoin said.
Margaret passed away in December of last year, having been first diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and she was in remission until 2020.
“She battled it so well and went on with her life, but the loss of independence was a big hit to her.”
Eoin said that the care she got in Milford was exceptional and that it allowed her to live out her final days in comfort, peace and in a home away from home.
“We know the money will go to a great use if we can provide another service or facility and see a tangible result of the fundraiser.
“Whatever we raise will provide so much for other families in Milford. Mammy just felt so at home and at peace there,” Eoin said.
The family thanked everyone who has supported them so far and also Willowbrook B&B in Nenagh for their sponsorship, as well as the extended O’Neill and Teehan families.
So far, more than €39,000 has been raised for Milford Care Centre and people can donate online on iDonate or follow the progress on Run a Lap for Milford on Facebook and Instagram.
