Spin South West presenter shares engagement news after magical NYC proposal
SPIN South West presenter Valerie Wheeler has announced her engagement to fiancé Gavin Young.
The RTÉ Sports reporter confirmed the proposal took place at Top of the Rock, a viewing platform at the top of Rockefeller Centre in New York City on January 3.
Sharing a picture of the happy couple on Instagram, in which the Empire State Building can be seen in the background, Valerie captioned the snap "A rock on top of the rock. 03-01-2024".
The Fully Charged Breakfast Show host and The Sunday Game reporter went Instagram official with her golfer partner in January 2023.
Last year, the broadcaster took part in a golfing YouTube series where she worked on her game in preparation to take part in the KPMG Women’s Irish Open Pro-Am and shared a video where she teed off during a lesson with her now fiancé.
Valerie and Gavin started the new year in South Beach, Florida before moving on to the Big Apple where the magical proposal took place.
The Charleville native and her PGA Golf Professional fiancé were congratulated by sporting stars and broadcasters who left messages of support under the post.
Hockey player Roisin Upton and influencer Niamh De Bruin Reid both wished the pair congratulations.
Valerie's radio co-host Ed Roche left a comment saying: "Awwwh my work wife is gonna be AN ACTUAL WIFE!!! Congratulations to you both!! So thrilled for ye two".
Ursula Jacob, Valerie's The Sunday Game colleague said: "Massive congrats to you both, such lovely news. Enjoy all the celebrations, so happy for ye".
