A MURAL of the Limerick GAA crest has been painted in a city location from recycled paints.

The recent project, completed by Southill Tidy Towns and Southill Residents Group, is located on an utility box at the R511 entrance to Carew Park residential estate in the city.

The new mural was created using paint that was collected from the civic amenity centre in Mungret and it was repurposed by the Relove Paint team, part of Limerick social enterprise, Tait House Community Enterprise.

Community officer of the group, Niall Deegan, says they are looking forward to more projects of similar stature in the future.

“The remit is to look at projects throughout the year to see what we can do to improve the aesthetics of the estates and surrounding areas,” Niall said.

“We are looking to do a Munster Rugby logo one now too, and looking to identify other good spots within the South Hill area.

“The Relove Paint team, James and Damian, were trained up and drew the Limerick mural before painting it outside Carew Park.”

The paint is collected by the Relove Paint team and repurposed, creating colours and a water-based solution.

In July, the team will be looking to open to the public and sell repurposed paint for an affordable price, according to Limerick woman and South Hill native Simone Dillon, who is operations and facility coordinator in Tait House.

In the mid-1980s, local residents came together to form Southill Development Co-operative Society for community initiatives.
