THE TOTAL economic impact of the three concerts in Thomond Park in 2024 was calculated to be €13.5 million.

Limerick City and County Council is welcoming the results of an independent economic impact assessment commissioned by Munster Rugby and conducted by Repucon Consulting.

The assessment highlights the significant economic benefits of the 2024 summer concerts held at Thomond Park and Virgin Media Park, Cork. In 2024, nearly 200,000 music fans attended a series of summer concerts at these venues.

Over the weekend of July 12 to 14th, more than 73,000 fans attended three concerts at Thomond Park, featuring performances by Snow Patrol, Paolo Nutini, and Liam Gallagher.

The assessment found that the events drew a wide domestic and overseas audience, with three-quarters of attendees living outside Limerick City and County. Overseas visitors comprised 4% of all attendees, with nearly 1,000 overseas visitors attending each of the three concerts in Limerick.

Thomond Park is set to host more exciting concerts in 2025 with performances from The Script and The Wolfe Tones.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran said the concerts “bring in visitors from all over, boosting our local businesses”.

“The results of this report back up what we already know – big concerts at Thomond Park bring a buzz and excitement to Limerick,” he said.

“As a local authority, we remain committed to supporting and promoting large events that enhance Limerick’s cultural and social appeal.”

The combined total economic impact of concerts in Limerick and Cork in 2024 was calculated to be €25.7M

Príomh Comhairleoir of Limerick City and County Council, Cllr Dan McSweeney said: “Thomond Park is a significant asset to Limerick as is evidenced in this comprehensive report.

“Even outside of big match days, it has the capacity to attract tens of thousands of people into Limerick, creating a positive atmosphere and providing a boost to local businesses. All at the venue are to be congratulated - they've certainly converted this opportunity into a win for Limerick.”

Dr. Pat Daly, Director General of Limerick City and County Council said the economic benefits highlighted by the report “demonstrate the importance” of these events “to our community and economy”.
