TENS of thousands of people are set to celebrate St Patrick's Day with parades and a variety of other events taking place across Limerick city and county this Friday.

There are no fewer than 12 parades taking place in towns at villages across the county while around 40,000 people are expected to attend the Limerick city parade which will feature 1,500 participants.

The first of the St Patrick's parades kicks off in the village of Broadford at 11.30am while the last the parade is due to start in Abbeyfeale at 4pm. For Mountcollins, it will be the first time the village has had a parade in more than 20 years.
