Gardai are investigating after a sum of cash was stolen

A PHOTO of two men who stole cash from a car outside a rural property in county Limerick in the early hours of the morning has been shared on WhatsApp.

It is not known if one of the hooded men is holding an implement or if it is glare in the photo.

Gardai have confirmed they were alerted to an incident of theft in the Kilmallock area on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at approximately 4.30am.

“The incident occurred at a domestic residence. A sum of cash was reported as stolen from a vehicle.

No injuries have been reported at this time. The investigation is ongoing,” said a garda spokesperson.

Cllr PJ Carey said it was a very frightening incident for the family concerned.

“It is getting dark now after 5pm and unfortunately we know there are those who commit crimes under the cover of darkness,” said Cllr Carey, who also has concerns over what could be in one of the perpetrator’s hands.

“The guards can’t be everywhere. We as a community need to look out for one another and report any people acting suspiciously or any strange vehicles to the gardai,” said Cllr Carey.

He added that in the past, councillors could air any concerns they may have in their areas with senior gardai at regular joint policing sub-committee meetings in the municipal districts.

“That has stopped now which I think is a retrograde step,” said Cllr Carey.
