LIMERICK people have two reasons to be glued to their seats next Monday and Tuesday as two ladies with local connections take part in the Rose of Tralee.

Molli-Ann O'Halloran and Róisín Wiley will take to the stage of the dome in Kerry for the International Festival which will see 32 roses from around the world featuring across both nights, with one being crowned the Rose of Tralee on Tuesday night.

Molli-Ann, the Limerick Rose, who was a student of St Mary's Secondary School and Thomond Community College now studies at the University of Limerick where she is studying voice in the Irish World Academy.

“I really want to just raise awareness around ASD and show people with Autism that there are no limits. Look where I am now.

“I have been selected for the Limerick Rose and it is absolutely amazing, ” she told the Limerick Leader.

Róisín, who was crowned the New York Rose, is connected to Limerick through her parents Eddie Wiley, originally from Kilmallock, and her mum, Majella, originally from Templeglantine.

She always felt a big connection to her heritage as they travel back almost every year to be with their extended family in Limerick.

The Rose of Tralee International Festival will be shown live on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player from 8pm on August 21 and 22 and it will be co-hosted this year by Daithí Ó Sé and Kathryn Thomas.
